Employees Participate in Medical Spanish Classes

Beginning in late September and ending in mid-November 30 Eye Associates employees attended a medical Spanish class on a weekly basis. Two levels of medical Spanish was offered, Beginning and Intermediate. This program was elective and employees attended the classes on their own time from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm for an 8-week period. The class instruction focused on the Spanish language specifically interpreting medical terminology.
A number of the employees expressed great praise for the interactive class and felt they learned a lot, coming away with information to review to improve their Spanish. One employee has since made index cards labeling everything in her home so that her daughter could pick up on the language as well. More importantly, the material covered areas to instruct the employees on how to communicate with Spanish speaking patients and what words should be used – a real asset for Eye Associates and just another example of our employees’ dedication to patient care.
The employees unanimously praised the instructor Maria Nilsson-Whitaker, owner and operator of Poco Loco here in Albuquerque.
