The retina refers to the lining in the back of the eye that receives light through the lens and transmits an image to the brain, enabling site. Because the retina is so crucial in providing vision, it is important that it be monitored regularly. While eye conditions such as glaucoma and macular degeneration can be detected through a retinal exam, signs of other conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease can also be identified. However, traditionally the retinal is viewed through the pupil manually, limiting the area visible and leaving no digital record and no way for the patient to observe results. However, Price Vision Group is proud to have recently adopted the optomap system. This is an ultra-wide digital retinal imaging system that provides a panoramic view of more than 80% of the retina and thus allows doctors a better chance of early detection and treatment of diseases. It also allows for the patient to better understand abnormalities because the optomap system allows them to see their own retina, which was previously only available through a specialist.
